About (Biography)
Writing became such a process of discovery that I couldn't wait to get to work in the morning: I wanted to know what I was going to say~Sharon O'Brien

I'd like to think I've always been a writer. I remember being a little girl, crouched on the floor of my bedroom, endlessly scribbling into those black and white thread-bound notebooks. You know, the ones from which you could never cleanly rip out a page? I filled oodles of them. Most likely with wannabe 'The Baby-sitter's Club' and 'Sweet Valley High' stories. Who my age doesn't remember Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anny and Stacey, and Jessica and Elizabeth?

In my teens, a prep-school teacher at Northfield Mount Hermon used to make me sit for an hour and put pen to paper. He called it free-writing and I loved it. And he became the first person (besides my parents) to tell me I was good.

It wasn't until college that I believed him. I left the confines of campus to study abroad for a year in Australia and France. To stay in touch with family and friends, I wrote travelogues. Each week I recounted my ridiculous adventures (sleeping in a re-purposed sheep barn in Western Australia) and silly mishaps (needing to be rescued from a cannoli-shaped mattress in a Paris hostel). The feedback I got from my emails was amazing, and that's when I knew I wanted to make a career from writing.

Since that fateful year abroad, I've stuck to my plan. And I hope you're glad I have. I know I am.

PS - a big THANK YOU to those black and white notebooks, Nick Fleck, all my friends from Oz and Dijon and everyone who reads my stuff.
